The History Of The Internet Is Being Written Now
It’s 2011, and it’s time to blow up the old ways of thinking about history. History is NOT a musty, dusty, irrelevant “thing” you visit in a museum. Nor is it separate from our lives as citizens or business people off in its own sphere.
It is hard to be inspired by the sound of traffic or machinery or even DJ’s, even though they may play a role in your life, but give silence a chance to influence you sometimes too.
My view for this piece is way too deep than this. The box for me can be any place. Church, Mosque, Parliament, Round Square, TV, YouTube or anything you can tell speech through. What indicates this piece is the power of media, the power of spoken words. They can change the map, the balance of power in this world. They can move people. They can move armies. Also they can spread peace, hope and better future.

In ancient times, people “would sing the stories of the Trojan War and its Greek heroes; these songs would be the Greek equivalent of a mini-series, for the stories were so long that they would take days to complete. The Greeks believed that the greatest of these story-tellers was a blind man named Homer, and that he sung ten epic poems about the Trojan War, of which only two survived (although the Greeks seem to have known them). For example. My mother was born in 1927 in a little town called Ludwigsruh in what was then Germany. Well, search as I might I could not find this little town. Why? I decided to look at the history of Germany around that time, keeping in mind that WWII changed the lay of the land, so to speak. I discovered that Ludwigsruh was now a sub-division of Gorzow Poland and the name itself was obsolete. I also found some articles that described the invasion of the little town and I discovered that my mother’s homestead became a base for Russian soldiers and that some pretty gruesome things had taken place there. No wonder mother didn’t want to talk about her home!
So, Parents, as teachers of the rising generation, how do you make history relevant? As exciting as these stories are, if we don’t learn how to apply them to our day, then we can’t be the epic heroes we need to be, and rescue our sacred and endangered heritage. We’ve got to think!
To simplify the events, I divided the events into categories. I had the students research a chosen category (great for written report), and then I set aside a day where the student would present a brief report on the selected topic.
